What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy describes how Splittsy ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Splittsy mobile application. By using Splittsy you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and profile photo (optional). If you sign in via Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from those providers.

Financial Records

To provide the service we store the bill and expense data you enter, including bill names, item descriptions, amounts, who paid, group membership, and settlement records. These records are shared with the other members of each group or bill you create.

Contacts

With your permission, Splittsy can read your device contacts to help you invite people to groups and bills. We do not upload your contact list to our servers. Contact data is used locally on your device for search and autocomplete only.

Receipt Images

When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to an AI scanning service to extract line items. Images are processed to return structured data and are not retained by the scanning service after processing.

Device & Usage Information

We automatically collect device type, operating system version, app version, and IP address. This information is used to maintain security, diagnose problems, and improve the app.

Push Notification Tokens

If you enable notifications, we store a push token issued by Apple or Google so we can send you alerts about bill activity and settlements. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the Splittsy service
• Send you notifications about bill activity, settlements, and account events
• Respond to support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
• Comply with applicable laws and regulations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data to serve you third-party advertising.

Sharing Your Information

With Other Users

Your name, profile photo, and the expense and settlement records you create are visible to the other members of any group or bill you belong to. Your email address is visible to group members to help them identify you.

With Service Providers

We work with carefully selected third-party service providers to operate, secure, and improve Splittsy. These providers process your data only as necessary to deliver the service and are contractually required to protect your information. We do not authorise them to use your data for their own purposes.

For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Splittsy, our users, or the public.

Business Transfer

If Splittsy is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

Your Choices & Rights

You can access and update your name and profile photo in the app at any time.

You can delete your account from the Profile screen. Deleting your account permanently removes your personal information (name, email, profile photo) from our systems. Expense records you created will remain visible to other group members but will no longer be associated with your identity.

You can disable push notifications in your device settings at any time.

You can revoke contacts access in your device settings at any time.

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection law, including the right to access, correct, restrict processing of, or obtain a copy of your personal data. Data Retention

We retain your account information and financial records for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information is removed within 30 days. We may retain anonymised or aggregated data that cannot identify you for longer periods to improve the service.

Security

We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

Children's Privacy

Splittsy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of Splittsy after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
